Types of Credit for Prior Learning

    1. Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) or professional qualifications
These qualifications are defined as those awarded by registered and accredited Australian Higher Education Institutions. They range from Certificate to Doctoral award level courses and the units offered within them. Professional body qualifications and courses may also be considered for credit equivalence at level.

    2. Informal or non formal learning
We also consider learning acquired in ‘informal’ contexts such as learning that can be documented and evidenced from work or life experience or from a structured work based course of learning or training that hasn’t led to a formal qualification. These are considered on a case by case basis by a Dean or their nominated academic representative in relation to equivalent achievement of the course and unit learning outcomes and their validity within context.

    3. Overseas qualifications
Comparability of overseas qualifications are assessed against the Australian Government National Office for Overseas Skills Recognition (AEI-NOOSR) guidelines and advice for equivalency with Australian qualifications. See our policy for our benchmarked list of equivalencies by country.

    4. Types of credit granted
Specified credit may granted for a unit from another accredited institution that is comparable and/or equivalent to a SISTC unit. Unspecified credit be granted towards SISTC elective unit/s where there is no comparable or directly equivalent SISTC unit but deemed by a Dean to be at level and applicable within policy and guidelines.
